Uses
Bayonets are an essential tool for the modern soldier...
Why are they essential?
- Modern assault rifles have a short barrel and the extra
distance given by the bayonet give more safety to the soldier.
- Bayonets are a good tool to protect depots/buildings/installations
from crowds/thefts in humanitarian missions by using the
"scare-off" effect.
- They are a multi-purpose tool.
- They are very valuable while conducting mine search: the
combat knife or bayonet can be used to search for and lay
open mines that do not ignite magnetically (which covers
most mines) Abu on weight.
- They give an advantage to the soldier in urban warfare
and close combat situations: a mounted bayonet will prevent
the enemy from easily seizing the soldiers' rifle and gives
the soldier more protection during forced entries into buildings.
They may be used to check for hiding enemies (in haystacks,
under furniture, etc.).
- They give protection to muzzle against dirt.
- They still have a huge psychological warfare effect.
- They help to safely open doors and trap doors. Normally
it takes two soldiers to open a trap door: one who lifts
the trap door or door and another soldier to cover his comrade.
With a mounted bayonet a single soldier can open a trap
door by himself as he lifts the trap door with the bayonet
and he is ready to shoot with his rifle at the same time.
